ISO 45001 Consultancy

An Overview of ISO 45001

In March 2018, BS OHSAS 18001 was withdrawn, and ISO 45001 replaced the occupational health and safety standard. ISO 45001 is expected to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses worldwide.

The standard is designed to help organisations of all sizes and industries to develop an effective occupational health and safety management system (OHS). Using it is the best way to find out which processes, policies, and controls are necessary for you to implement to achieve good working conditions for your staff whilst remaining in line with the internationally recognised standard.

History of the ISO 45001 Standard

ISO 45001 was introduced in March 2018 to replace the previous occupational health and safety standard BS OHSAS 18001.

OHSAS 18001 was recognised nationally in the United Kingdom, whereas ISO 45001 is an internationally recognised occupational health and safety standard. ISO 45001 brings all the benefits of OHSAS 18001, and the transition involves enhanced leadership involvement and worker participation.

What is the focus of ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 applies to organisations of all sizes and sectors and is the world’s international occupational health and safety standard.

The focus of ISO 45001 is to introduce a safe working environment for employees by laying out the minimum requirements for an occupational health and safety management system.

What are the benefits of ISO 45001?

In creating good working conditions in workplaces across your business, you can also help improve staff morale and productivity. Staff will be happier to stick with a company they know is looking out for them regarding working conditions.

ISO 45001 will also help you to identify the most significant hazards in your workplace(s) and allow you to work towards putting controls in place to manage them so that staff feel and are safe.
Reducing accidents in the workplace will cut the costs associated with injury or illness as well as downtime, foster goodwill among colleagues and engage and motivate them to work harder.
Finally, customers, suppliers and other contacts will be happier to work with a business which can demonstrate compliance with the standard to a high level.
